Nau Mai, Haere Mai – Welcome to the 2016 Leigh Carnival website.

Come join us on Easter Sunday, 27th March!  Fine food, fresh local fish, local produce, a whole stack of bargains & fabulous entertainment come together in the style of a traditional Easter country féte. Held every Easter Sunday (rain or shine) in the beautiful seaside village of Leigh, only 1 hour North of Auckland, & 10 minutes from Matakana Market.

The big day starts at 9am and all stalls open as soon as the Principal rings the old fashioned school bell!

Our small country school’s annual fundraising carnival is the key event on our calender to raise money to support our programmes. With only 55 pupils at the school we greatly appreciate the broader community’s support, so hope you will come along on the day. Please also visit our list of supporters to see who is helping us out and, in return, please support them whenever you can!

The kids will have a great time with the giant ice slide, the mission impossible obstacle course, bouncy castles, merry-go-round, mini hot rods, lucky dip, inflatable toys, face and painting, coconut shy, laughing clowns, fishing game, snow cones, candy floss, and a special appearance by the Easter Bunny (if you’re really lucky, the Easter Bunny may even have a few eggs left to give away!).

There are raffles with beautiful gift basket prizes and guessing games …. how many lollies in the jar (best guess wins them all!) or win a great prize by guessing how much the giant pumpkin weighs?

We will have wonderful locally sourced food to sample, including lamb on the spit burgers, fresh off the boat Leigh fish burgers and, the always popular, sausage sizzle.

Our Quickfire Raffles have a huge amount of fresh Leigh Fisheries fish (snapper & tarakihi), smoked fish and, we’ve just had confirmation that YES, there will be crayfish this year!!

Team that up with Matakana Oysters oysters and you have a seafood bonanza!

There’s also a brilliant silent auction to bid on and we are exceptionally grateful to all the businesses that support us with products, vouchers, goods and services.

Popular local group, The Pipi Pickers, are on hand to entertain and delight the crowd with their sweet Bluegrass sound.

Let’s not forget bric-a-brac, books, plants, preserves and the onsite cafe with home-baked cakes and sweets.

Inside the hall, the Carnival Café offers delicious home baking, including our traditional yummy scones with homemade jam and lashings of fresh whipped cream, plus cups of tea or coffee.  Available till it’s all sold out…

The local Cafe 2 U coffee cart is also on hand, with a percentage of their proceeds being kindly donated to the School.

Silent Auction

Leigh, Matakana, Pakiri, Omaha, Snells Beach & Warkworth businesses always give generously to the silent auction (plus some amazing Auckland businesses too). Each year we have over $10,000 worth of prizes to bid on – so it’s guaranteed you will walk away with a bargain!

Prizes on offer range from fancy local accommodation, activity and dining vouchers, merino baby clothes, possum/merino knitwear, garden & landscaping supplies, works from our top local galleries, jewellery, dive trips, café and restaurant vouchers through to WOF’s and vehicle services. There will be something for everyone, whether you are a local or a visitor just up for Easter weekend.

The auction closes at 1.30pm sharp, so make sure you get your bids in before then!

Quick Fire Raffles

For the grown-ups: it wouldn’t be a Leigh Carnival without the quickfire raffles! Local businesses generously donate fabulous prizes such as vouchers for services, products and gift packs etc and these are combined with a vast amount of fresh seafood from our long time loyal sponsor, the Leigh Fisheries (Lee Fisheries). It’s the best way to get your hands on some fresh snapper, smoked fish, oysters, or (if you’re feeling really lucky) a succulent crayfish.  These run from 9.15am for most of the morning, until sold out.

Get your crayfish here, folks!

Plus gorgeous bouquets of freshly picked roses (thanks to Whangateau Roses), and lots of chillies and sweet peppers (from Matakana Chillies & Southern Paprika respectively), new seasons apples from Morrison Orchards too.

Bric a Brac and Book Stalls

Reduce – reuse – recycle! Ever popular – the Bric a Brac sale and the book stall are places you can pick up a real bargain with lots of donations gathered up from the school and our generous local community.

The Bric-a-brac is painstakingly sorted and priced by our wonderful volunteers and there will be some absolute gems and treasures.  This DEFINITELY ONLY OPENS AFTER THE SCHOOL BELL RINGS!
